The Asian-American Combination for Halloween

I love Halloween. Having spent the last 8 years in an ad agency, Halloween has become a big annual occasion that I prepare for. Being surrounded by creative individuals, it's always a pressure to come up with a costume that will merit the approval of the highly conceptual. There was always a theme per department at my old office and the past few years, I have transformed into the following:

Our theme was Pixar last year and I came as Mirage from The Incredibles. My friend Donnah dressed up as Mrs. Incredible and Miggy as Russell from Up. We nailed it, didn't we?

In 2011, the theme was movie villains so I came as Gogo Yaburi from Kill Bill.

As you can see, I am really fond of wigs. I've always been very frustrated with my hair because I doubt that it will ever grow out nicely. Halloween gives me the opportunity to wear a wig so I can have any kind of hair that I want.

This year is going to be my first Halloween with Brian and we've agreed to dress up in partner costumes. To make it even more entertaining, we've decided to play up our Asian and American connection for our costumes.

Knowing that my advertising friends would have better ideas--and a ton of fun--brainstorming about what we should come as, here's the short list that we came up with after an intense Facebook discussion:

Food. I can dress up as a Chinese Takeout while he can come as the All-American favorite, hotdog.

Miss Saigon/Vietnam War. I will dress up as Kim and him, my American soldier lover.

Green Hornet and Kato. Just because Kato is Asian.

Pocahontas and John Smith. My dark complexion can pull this off easily, plus, this gives me a chance to wear a wig!

Indiana Jones and Short Round. I guess with our height differences (Brian's 5'11 and I'm 5'3... 5'3 1/2 if the humidity's bad and my hair gets as big as Diana Ross') we can make this work.

The infamous couple -- John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Well, both of us will be wearing wigs (and him a beard!) for this study.

Neo and the Key Master in The Matrix. Ok, this one would be pretty difficult to pull off for me. I don't know how the mind of my advertising friends work that they were able to come up with this idea! I would never have thought of this on my own! Haha.

James Bond and Severine. I bet we will end up looking like prom dates if we decide to go as this pair.

Lastly, the most famous Asian-American pair, Mr. Miyagi and Karate Kid!

We have a week to fix everything before the Halloween party. Who do you think we should come as?
