Jollibee Style Sweet Filipino Spaghetti Recipe

As a true blue Filipino, I grew up eating and loving Jollibee. Aside from the delicious Chicken Joy, my favorite dish has got to be the Jolly Spaghetti. Unlike the traditional Italian Spaghetti, what makes this Filipino favorite different is that its sauce is sweet. Yes, sweet and full of flavor, combining ground beef and hotdogs cut into small pieces. Hotdogs in spaghetti? Yup, you read that right!

There are days when I just crave for my Jolly Spaghetti. Luckily for me, there's a Jollibee outlet that's just a quick 20-minute drive away from us. I once took B to Jollibee because integrating my culture into his life is a hobby of mine. He comes from an Italian - American family and I wasn't quite sure of what he would think of my beloved spaghetti. The verdict? He liked it... Though I think it took more than a few bites for him to appreciate it.

The two loves of my life

While Jollibee is a quick 20-minute drive away, my laziness overcomes me so, I don't get to eat the dish as much as I would like to. Then, I saw this in our Asian market.

I felt like I struck gold. It was an answered prayer! Finally, I can make my dish at home. Thank you, UFC. You are a life saver for Filipinos who live away from home.

Ingredients Needed:

Canola Oil
1 Tablespoon salt
1 Tablespoon ground pepper
1 Tablespoon minced garlic
1 big onion minced to small pieces
3 hotdogs cut diagonally into small pieces
1.5 lbs ground turkey or ground beef (I used turkey since it's healthier)
1 UFC Spaghetti Sauce
Shredded Cheddar Cheese
1 Spaghetti noodles

Cooking Directions

1. Heat canola oil. Once it's hot, pour in the onion, ground pepper and salt together and continue cooking for 40 seconds. Combine garlic into the mixture and continue cooking for 1 minute.

2. Mix in the ground beef or turkey as well as the hotdogs and continue cooking until it is nice and brown (around 10 minutes if beef or turkey is a little frozen!)

3. Once beef is cooked, pour in the UFC Spaghetti sauce and stir into the mixture. Heat for 3 - 5 minutes.

Most spaghetti noodles come with cooking directions at the back of the box. Standard procedure is:

1. Bring 5 Litres of water to boil (this is if you're using the entire box .... The spaghetti sauce is actually good for 1 box).

2. Once water has reached boiling point, bring in the spaghetti noodles and 1 Tablespoon of salt and cook for 12 - 14 minutes while stirring occasionally.

Once everything is done, I pour in a generous amount of sauce over my spaghetti noodles and top it with cheddar cheese. According to B, "It tastes just like the one from Jollibee!"

You have no idea how happy that makes me!
