Bacon, Onion and Cheese Stuffed Burger Recipe

Ahhh burgers. There's nothing like having a good double patty burger. Ever since I moved to NY, burgers have become a regular dietary staple. My favorite ones are the likes of Shake Shack and Burger Fi... Just thinking about them makes me hungry already!

So, for the love of everything burger related, I decided to make my own twisted burger invention---the Bacon, Onion and Cheese Stuffed Double Patty Burger. Take a look at this trick that I did...Yep, all the goodies are grilled in between 2 burger patties!

Yummy, yummy, get in my tummy!

Ingredients (2 servings)

1 lb ground turkey OR beef (I used ground turkey because it's our way of sticking to a healthy meal plan... Hey, Rome wasn't built in a day!)
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp garlic powder
3/4 medium onion, chopped
1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/8 tsp ground black pepper
1 tbsp BBQ sauce
3 ounces bacon
2 hamburger buns

The stars of today's recipe!

1. Using a large mixing bowl, mix ground turkey (or beef), salt, pepper, garlic powder, BBQ sauce with your hands.

2. Taking a handful at a time, shape them to 4 burger patties. Lay them on a wrap or sheet and leave in the fridge.

Mix it together with your hands... It's actually quite therapeutic.

Once you finished shaping the mixture to burger patties, keep them in the fridge until needed.

Who does not love crispy, golden bacon??

3. Cook bacon until they are golden and crispy in a skillet. Remove the bacon and blot the excess oil with a paper towel. Turn the heat to medium and using the same oil, cook the onions until they become soft, translucent and a little brown (around 2-3 minutes)

Don't you just love the smell of onions cooking?

4. Prepare the grill. Since we live in a cozy NY apartment, we really don't have a garden or even a balcony where we can place a big grill. Instead, what we do have (and love) is this Foreman Grill that allows us to grill the most delicious things in our apartment. You have no idea how much I love this piece of technology.

5. While the grill is heating, bring out the patties. Top 2 of the patties with bacon, onion and cheese generously. Then, cover the patties with the toppings with the other 2 patties. Press the edges together to ensure that the patties are sealed.

Generously top the patties.

Cover the topped patties with the non-topped patties.

Don't forget to seal the sides!

6. Grill the stuffed patties until cooked (5-8 minutes). Serve on hamburger buns with any of your choice condiments (additional BBQ sauce, mustard and mayonnaise!)

Do you love burgers as much as I do?
